On Thursday last week, the boys and I took a short road trip to Deep Lake, Colville WA. About 1:45 drive from Spokane. It is 50 miles south of the Canadian border. The boys were SO excited to leave that I finally gave in, an hour earlier than planned! All was good though, because I knew of a park in Chewelah that was about the halfway point to make a bathroom and stretch break in the journey.
When we stopped and got out, the boys immedately found some children in the local stream catching bullfish. SO AWESOME to see kids actually outside in the weather playing---instead of sitting in front of computer and TV screens.

This is where they first found the other kids catching fish--totally intrigued!! |
|
After seeing how they caught them, they were right in the midst of the action! They spent a whole hour with these kids running up and down the stream catching fish! What a great pit stop!
|
They had GREAT old school playground equipment at this park too!! Old tires, real climbing equipment, monkey bars and a metal slide! Here's a few "posed" shots. They always like looking at themselves after I snap these :)

Such a great picture of these kids! |
When we left the park, we drove for the small town of Colville to meet my grandma at her hair salon. After she finished getting her hair done, she took us to lunch at Ronnie D's. This is a drive in that my grandma took my sister and I to when we were Parker's age. SO good and SO many awesome memories made here :)
WIth our bellies full, we set off to run granmda's "Thursday errands" with her. First though, was a stop at WalMart to buy the boys each a brand new outfit for school. How nice of her!
We grabbed a Papa Murphys for dinner, stopped at the Dollar Tree for sand buckets, and ended with her usual trip to Super One foods for the weeks' groceries.
Once at the lake, the boys played in the water and on the dock the entire time. They fed the ducks and we even took a few trips out on the ole' row boat. This boat has been around since I can remember!
We played lawn darts and had root beer floats on the deck to end the hot days.

He was so excited to catch "clams" |

I was pulling some weeds away from the dock, and when I did, HUGE crawdads would scurry out from inside them---the boys tried SO hard to catch them when they were scared off! |
|
Lawn darts! Remember these, Nicole!?!? |

Gramma made us root beer floats! YUM!!!

When we left Grandma's on Friday afternoon, we went home for a quick overnight sleep in our own beds and got up early Saturday to make another 1:30 drive to Gifford Campground on Lake Roosevelt to meet up with some friends who invited us to camp with them.
We got there, set up camp, and set off for a private beach along the 154 mile long lake.
2 days of beach = FUN.
Parker rode a jet ski (at 60mph---so glad I didn't see that!!! MOM HEART ATTACK)
Colton befriended a knee board that he made into his own surf board and Parker hopped on a tube with Dad and rode some waves!
We even found massive schools of tadpoles that the kids caught and played with!
GREAT TIME had by all!
