Spring Break - Week 2 - Day 11

Today was the first "nice" (if you can call 45• and cloudy nice) day we've had this Spring Break. On a positive note, it wasn't dark, raining, or windy.
We decided to go to a local "woodsy" park and have a scavenger hunt. I got the idea from this Pinterest pin:

Below are the pictures that correlate with the list of items they were asked to find. They are very smart boys...not everything was something we could pick up and put in our sacks...they really thought outside the box on this one!!
This wasn't actually on the list, but I like to take these moments to get a photo of the 3 of us together :)
Something smooth
Something beautiful - a tree
Something round
Something beautiful - the grass
Something that makes noise - jumping on a drain grate makes a hollow drum sound!
A chewed leaf
Something fuzzy - ASTROTURF!  How creative they are!!!
A chewed leaf
Something that makes noise - jumping on a valve box is like a drum!
Something rough - the top of a sewer cover, its bumpy!
Something round
Something rough - the brick on the wall
Something scary - we added this to the list when we saw the tree - it did look a little spooky
Something smooth - the top of the concession counter stand
Inside the scary tree
AHHH!!!   We're stuck inside the scary tree!!!

Cooped up on Spring Break - Day 2

Day 2 of Spring Break was much like Day 1.  Indoors.
Although it's been nice having the kids together again to play with each other, it's also been challenging to try and keep them busy, occupied and entertained.  Especially since Parker is totally used to being stimulated 7 hours a day!

We started the morning off with a coloring "contest" between the 3 of us.  The goal was to "take our time" and "color inside the lines".  This is a big challenge for Parker because he has the mindset to hurry and get it done fast...so, we are working on this.  With Colton, it is about practicing to color in longer strokes and stay inside the lines.  I got some cute Spring printouts from this website:

After that Parker reminded me of some books that I had got at a yard sale a few years back.  Full of crafts, experiements, and other activites for kids to do.  I told him he could pick out any activity as long as we had all of the supplies.   He found a really cool tie dye activity using food coloring and paper towels -- see pictures below.  It was fun for them because you can fold the towel in many different ways and shapes to have a different design of tie dye.

Lunch time!!  I'm a sucker for making forts and tents.  What a better way to eat lunch than in a tent!?

Mrs. B. sent home some "homework" for the kids just to keep their minds sharp over the break.  Today Parker practiced writing his numbers.  He's doing quite well without asking for my help.  He is also reading short books with sight words fluently now.

Let's hope Day 3 brings us outdoors!  I have a great idea planned for them if the weather cooperates!
